Hannah lived by the sea, along the coast where the water was green and the sand golden. From her front deck she could see her Gran's cottage and almost every day she ran down the bush track and across the park to be with her grandmother.
Hannah and Gran often watched the turn of the tide. They wrote messages in the sand and watched in silence as the sea licked the words from the beach. Once Hannah drew large kisses in the sand. As she saw the sea creep away with her work she asked, "What will the sea do with my kisses,
Gran?" Gran thought for a moment. I think she will keep them safe in her waves until they are needed again," she answered.
But one day Hannah has to leave and her Gran must watch the
sea alone. Gran has to hope that Hannah remembers their
words on the beach and that she hasn't forgotten the secrets the
sea holds.
